The Office of the State Controller will sponsor a College and University Accounting and Financial Reporting seminar for agency fiscal representatives on March 8, 1999 at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh. The registration fee for this course will be $50 per attendee, which includes all course materials, break service, and lunch. Due to classroom size, the course will be limited to 200 participants.

This course will provide an introduction to the basic concepts of college and university accounting. We anticipate that the seminar will qualify for 8 hours of continuing professional education credit. This program will include an overview of accounting and financial reporting for colleges and universities, current financial reporting problems, the new GASB reporting model for colleges and universities, recent pronouncements, and other issues.

Mary Fischer, Ph.D., a professor of accounting at the University of Texas at Tyler, will present this seminar. Dr. Fischer has written a wide array of articles on accounting education, cash flow, fund accounting for colleges and universities, unrelated business tax, and financial administration. She currently serves as the president of the Southwest American Accounting Association and is a member of the NACUBO Accounting Principles Council. In addition, Dr. Fischer develops and writes the weekly accounting tutorial on the NACUBO's Internet website.
