It is the policy of the State of North Carolina that certain types of pay will be utilized by the payroll system which differentiate between appointment type and years of service.

General Information

The State of North Carolina offers a wide range of employment opportunities to qualified applicants and employees.  Appointment types and employee years of service define the types of pay and benefits state employees are eligible to receive.  The types of pay currently processed on the State Central Payroll System include the following:

  • Salaried employee pay
  • Hourly employee pay
    • Student
    • Summer school
    • National guard
  • Supplements to regular wages
    • Bonus pay
    • Longevity pay
    • Weighted premium pay
      • Multi-pay shift differentials
      • Overtime - 1-1/2
      • Additionalstraight time
