Stafford Student Loans Policy

There are no specified IRS rulings on whether forgiveness of student loan payments constitutes reportable income. Therefore, there are no IRS reporting requirements. However, agencies should advise the party relieved of the repayment to consult with their tax advisor as to the reportability of the amount of loan forgiveness.
