The Office of the State Controller will sponsor a seminar, The New Financial Reporting Model - A Review of GASB Statement No. 34, on March 7, 2002 at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh. The registration fee for this course will be $90 per attendee, which includes all course materials, break service, and lunch. Due to classroom size, the course will be limited to 200 participants. Also, because of the recent budget cuts, we recommend that you use non-state funds to pay for any related travel costs.

This course was written by Wesley Galloway, project manager of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, and is designed to provide participants with an in depth understanding of how to implement the statement. Course highlights include management’ s discussion and analysis (MD&A), government-wide financial statements, fund financial statements, notes to the financial statements, and required supplementary information.

The instructor will be John J. "Jeff" Linderman, the owner/director of Government Finance Solutions in Battle Creek, Michigan, a consulting firm providing educational and technical assistance to state and local governments on accounting, audi ting, and financial reporting issues. Mr. Linderman has nearly twenty-five years of experience in state and local government financial management, including four years as the controller and chief accountant for the State of Michigan. He also worked for eighteen years with the Michigan Office of the State Auditor General. Mr. Linderman has presented several courses on governmental accounting and the single audit process for the American Institute of CPAs and is a frequent discussion leader for the Michi gan Association of CPAs and the Association of Government Accountants.
