More and more often we are finding it useful to place documents in
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Adobe Acrobat formats on our site for
downloading. This allows the people who use our site to view and print
documents from the web in a suitable format and also allows users to
download these files and edit or print them from their own computers.
How To Use These Files
Adobe Acrobat Files (.pdf)
Microsoft Excel documents (.xls)
- These documents will always be opened in Excel, not in your
browser.
- Click once on the link to the Excel file. You will get one of two
message boxes. If you have the option to open the file, choose that
option. If you do not, choose Save File, but pay attention to where you
save it.
- If you chose to open the file, Excel should open with the file in it.
- If you chose to save the file, you will need to start Excel, then open
the file you just saved.
- If you do not have Excel on your machine, a link is provided when
necessary for you to download the software. Please note - if you do have
Excel on your machine, do not download and install the viewer.
Microsoft PowerPoint and PowerPoint Animations (.ppt, .ppz)
- Windows 95/NT Systems
If you are running Windows 95 or Windows NT 3.51 or later, you can view
these slide shows directly within your browser provided that you have
installed
the Microsoft PowerPoint Animation Player software. If you do not
have a copy of this program, click
here to get the Microsoft PowerPoint Animation Player. This
program
is free of charge. Also, you need Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0
or Netscape Navigator 2.0 or later to view PowerPoint Animation files
within
your browser. After the show is loaded within your browser, right
click anywhere within the first slide and select "Full screen".
Then,
click your mouse to advance to the next screen.
- Windows 3.1 Systems
If you are running Windows 3.1, you will need to view these slide shows
outside your browser using Microsoft PowerPoint 4.0 or later. If
you do not have a copy of the PowerPoint program, click
here to get the Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer. This program is
also free of charge. Help with
downloading is available.
-
In some cases, after you have viewed a .ppz file through your browser, you
can no longer use your browser to view .ppt files. A work around is to
download the .ppt files to your machine and view them through PowerPoint
or the PowerPoint Viewer. To download these files to your machine, right
click on the underlined
link and choose "Save As...". A help page
with more information on
downloading is provided.
Microsoft Word documents (.doc)
- Click on the link to the Word document.
- If you are not given the option to open the document, save the file to
your computer, remembering where you saved it. Then, start Microsoft Word
and open the file you just saved. Talk to your system administrators
about setting your mime types so you can view these documents another way.
- If you are given the option to open, choose it.
- If you do not click the "Open OLE server in place" button, the
document will open in Word automatically. If you do choose this option,
the document will open in your browser, but will not be editable.
- If you do not have Word on your machine, a link is provided when
necessary for you to download and install the software. Please note - if
you do have Word on your machine, do not download and install the viewer.
