Comprehensive Annual Financial Report    of the State of North Carolina (CAFR)    For the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 1997    The Office of the State Controller is required to prepare a CAFR each year in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.  The 1997 CAFR received an unqualified opinion from the Office of the State Auditor and conformed to the requirements of the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting program of the GFOA. This program is a prestigious national award recognizing conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government financial reports. Introductory Section

• The Introductory Section includes the letter of transmittal and the State's organization chart, including a listing of principal State officials (219 kb).

• The General Purpose Financial Statements, which include the State Auditor's Report, the combined  financial statements, the notes to the financial statements, and required supplementary information (619 kb).
• The Combining, Individual Fund and Account Group Financial Statements and Schedules, which include details on the Special Revenue Funds, Capital Projects Funds, Enterprise Funds, Internal Service Funds, Trust and Agency Funds, General Fixed Assets Account Group, General Long-Term Obligations Account Group, and Component Unit Funds (544 kb).

• This Statistical Section includes selected financial, non-financial, and demographic information, much of which is presented on a ten-year basis.  This information is especially useful in assessing overall financial trends of the State (189 kb).
